چکیده

The Pendulum appliance is one of the most terrific and useful appliances for the treatment of Class II malocclusions in non-compliant patients. As reported by Hilgers, the appliance has its anterior anchorage based on a Nance button which can be connected to the first premolars (or the first deciduous molars) and to the second bicuspids (or second deciduous molars) using bonded occlusal rests. To prevent bond fractures, Hilgers recommends banding only the first bicuspids. This procedure may produce an unfavorable effect of mildly protruding the anterior teeth. To reduce this protrusion, the Pendulum appliance can be modified

Molar Uprighting Using Mini-Screws after Distalization by the Pendulum Appliance: A Case Report

A 16-year-old Class II female patient was treated without tooth extraction. The upper first molars were distalized by the Pendulum appliance. After six months, the molars tipped significantly to the distal. To correct this side effect, we decided to upright the molars using skeletal anchorage. On each side, a mini-screw was inserted between first and second premolars in the buccal cortical plat...

Anchorage quality of deciduous molars versus premolars for molar distalization with a pendulum appliance.

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to assess dental anchorage qualities when the pendulum appliance is used for distal molar movement. MATERIAL Thirty adolescents in various dentition stages received a modified pendulum appliance with a distal screw and a specially preactivated pendulum spring for bilateral molar distalization in the maxilla. The subjects were subcategorized into 3 groups of 1...

Skeletal versus conventional intraoral anchorage for the treatment of class II malocclusion: dentoalveolar and skeletal effects

BACKGROUND The purpose of this retrospective study is to investigate the dentoalveolar and skeletal effects of two distalizing protocols featuring different anchorage systems used in patients with class II malocclusion: the MGBM system (skeletal anchorage) and Pendulum (intraoral anchorage). METHODS The sample comprised 57 patients who were assigned to one of the two treatments: the MGBM grou...

Dentoalveolar and skeletal changes associated with the pendulum appliance.

The purpose of the study was to examine the dentoalveolar and skeletal effects of the pendulum appliance in Class II patients at varying stages of dental development and with varying facial patterns (high, neutral, and low mandibular plane angles). Specifically, the amount and nature of the "distalization" of the maxillary first molars and the reciprocal effects on the anchoring maxillary first...

Molar distalization with a pendulum appliance K-loop combination.

SUMMARY The aim of this study was to evaluate the dentoalveolar effects of a pendulum appliance supported buccally by a K-loop, and to compare these with a cervical headgear (CHG) group. The records of 30 patients with skeletal Class I and dental Class II malocclusions were divided in to two groups: Patients in group 1 (seven females and eight males; mean age, 15.0 +/- 3.4 years) were treated w...
